Important Cybersecurity Tips from Synacore GmbH
#1
Do not open emails or attachments from unknown senders. This is especially important if they pressure you to act quickly. Do not be misled by supposedly "official" sources.
#2
Be cautious with emails soliciting donations, even if they appear to come from trustworthy organisations.
If you wish to donate, do so directly through the organisation's official website.
#3
Be wary of text messages from unknown senders.
If you do not know the sender, do not click on links received via instant messaging applications or SMS, and block the caller.
#4
Be on guard against disinformation campaigns.
"Deepfakes" and other methods of spreading disinformation are being used more and more frequently. Be generally sceptical of messages that urge you to forward information. Before forwarding a message, make sure it comes from a trustworthy source.
#5
Use strong passwords for your online accounts.
The most secure passwords are sufficiently long (at least 12 characters), feature a variety of character types and combinations, and are never reused. Make sure you set a unique password for every account. A password manager can simplify managing these passwords and provide an additional layer of security.
#6
Use a virtual private network (VPN) for all public Wi-Fi connections.
VPNs such as the one from Bitdefender create an additional layer of protection between your devices and the internet. Most public hotspots leave your privacy vulnerable.
